Handmade Soap & Skincare Products from Florida

Thank you for visiting my site! Please read a little more about me and my products, below.

Welcome to Nature Coast Soaps! My name is Jim and I'm the owner and operator of this tiny, handmade soap business. I have primary sources of income through my full and part-time work. But, my love of soap making moved me forward into small business enjoyment. My interest in making soap began many years ago. I was exposed to handmade soap, off and on, most of my life. In 2018, I finally started collecting a few tools for soap making. After more research on the subject and drawing inspiration from Handmade soap I'd used in the past and contemporary makers, I began making soap in January 2019.

Soaping became an interest of mine for many reasons. Honestly, one of the biggest is because I wanted a soap that would be gentler to aging skin. A soap that would not strip my skin of so much of it's natural oils, causing dryness that can accelerate premature aging. Since I began making soap, it's been a true joy giving them as gifts to friends and family. I've found they really love my soap and the personal touch that comes from Handmade.

So, after a lot of time and continued learning (which is ongoing) of making soap from scratch, and loving every minute of it, I started my small, home-based business, Nature Coast Soaps in May 2021. My small business is located in Beverly Hills, Florida, which is within Citrus County, Florida, part of Florida's Nature Coast. For more on Florida's Coasts, Click Here.

People living in Florida's Nature Coast work hard and play hard. The area offers a wide variety of activities, such as Airboat Riding, Hiking Trails, Scalloping (Scallops? Click Here) and many others. It's a wonderful place filled with the nicest people.

Quality of life is important here. And at Nature Coast Soaps, I'm committed to making high-quality bath and body products by hand to help you further enhance your quality of life, here and wherever you live. My soap is made in small batches so that I can offer the care and attention each bar deserves. Typically, I make soap using the cold process method, but I also utilize the hot process method when seeking a more rustic look.

If you have any questions, you can send me an email or give me a call at (352) 462-1034. If no questions and you're ready, just make your selections, fill out my form, and place your order.

Soap Dimensions, Packaging & Shipping

See below for information about soap dimensions, after curing time. The measurements are approximately:

Dimensions

4 - 4.5 ounce bars

3 inches high

1 inch thick

2.75 inches wide

3 - 3.5 ounce bars

2.75 inches high

1 - 1/8 inch thick

2 1/8 inch wide

Two exceptions to the measurements are:

Simple and Pure Goat's Milk Soap. Currently, these are approximately 2.9 - 3.5 ounces each and are 2.5 inches high. Remaining dimensions are as the other 3 - 3.5 ounce bars.

Massage Bars are 3 inches long, 2 1/4 inches wide and 1 9/16 inch thick.

Note: Measurements are approximate due to soaps being hand cut. No bar is less than 3 ounces for the 3 - 3.5 ounce bars and no soap is less than 4 ounces for the 4 - 4.5 ounce bars.

Packaging

I use clear tape when securing labels to each soap. Additionally, I use clear tape when securing a package for shipment. Finally, I use a shrink wrap (polyolefin) to shrink wrap each bar for in-store sales and shipping, unless a customer requests this not be done. My reason for doing this is for sanitary purposes. It protects each bar from handling by others, and from scent transfer from bar to bar, before customer purchase and use.

Typically, I include at least one soap sample with every order, at no charge. Each soap sample is stored in a small, plastic, zip bag. I will be exploring other packaging and biodegradable shrink wrap options for further waste reduction, in the near future. Please stay tuned.

Shipping

When shipping small orders, I may a small box or small plastic shipping envelope with paper packaging materials. For medium sized orders, I typically use pre-ordered cardboard boxes and paper packaging material I've purchased. Or, I may reuse similar packaging materials from prior shipments, when available, to reduce waste. Additionally, since I print and cut my own labels, I may repurpose excess labels and shred to use as packaging material.

To reduce shipping costs, for medium sized orders, I may place order boxes into USPS shipping envelopes. These are plastic bubble-wrap envelopes. For large orders, I may use USPS Shipping cardboard boxes.

*Note: I will be moving, almost entirely, from the use of non-biodegradable plastics in my packaging and shipping practices, save for the possible use of clear tape. This will take time as I find more eco-friendly alternatives and use my remaining packaging materials. I will continually post progress on this goal.
